Is that a beer belly?

99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer. Take one down and pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall…

For those of you that know me, you will be shocked. Very, very shocked. Throughout my university years I tried so hard to like beer, after all it was cheap and always had some kind of student discount. However, it was to no avail.

goessernaturradlerI would try again and again. In Japan every toast is made with beer. A few times I would pretend to take a sip and then order something that was actually drinkable, but my colleagues noticed and would then always come equipped with some plum wine for me.

On a trip to Belgium I knew it was time. I tried a chocolate beer – why would you ruin something so perfect? The cherry beer – this one was bound to fail as I’m not really a cherry fan either. The normal beer – yup, it tasted like beer.

Being half-German it should be natural to drink beer. My brother manages to drink plenty of the stuff. And now, finally, after two months of living here… I have found a beer I like! I can’t quite believe it either, but last night was the first time this lady had not one but TWO beers. If you are unsure of what to drink in Germany and are not the biggest fan of the fluid that is much cheaper than water, try a Radler. There is no need to tell me it is basically a shandy and hence my two pints only really equate to one pint. To me, last night, I had two pints of beer. I am beginning that journey towards a beer belly. Finally…
