A late Christmas Present…

Christmas Time…
Mistletoe and Wine…

So I know Christmas is over and all that jazz, but yesterday I received a little bit of Christmas magic in the post. Some of you may know Reddit and once a year they do an online Secret Santa gift exchange. The purpose is to bring happiness to the world, and I have to say there was some beaming going on in our little apartment yesterday morning.

imageLet me give you some history. Reddit is a huge online community, where people post photos and information on every topic under the sun. From boardgames to sewing to funny dog videos, you can be sure to find some gems. In 2009, they started Reddit Gifts – an online gift exchange, connecting strangers from all over the globe. Last year 44,805 people from 130 countries around the world took part. You get matched to someone randomly and then the stalking begins. I was given a 17 year old boy in California who was into sports. We sent him some weights and he was absolutely delighted. Getting his lovely message of thanks made me so happy I wasn’t even bothered about getting something in return.

However, yesterday morning a man rang my doorbell. He apologised for the delay and said he had been on holiday for the past month. Apparently he had received my package by mistake as we shared a surname: Abel. How on earth the postman failed to realise this man’s name was not Vanessa and also the more amazing mistake of being ON A TOTALLY DIFFERENT STREET I shall never know, but luckily this kind man came to hand-deliver my parcel. I quickly ripped it open and to my delight it was full of lovely things.

A huge eco-bag covered in a beautiful postage stamps design, a collection of paper for my creative card making which made me want to get crafty immediately and then what my SS (Secret Santa) called ‘the best cookies you will ever eat in your entire life’. I literally cannot wait to bake them. A super epic present and a super epic lady. She obviously did some stalking of her own…

image2It’s weird to think there is no way I will ever know who sent this stuff to me. We will never meet or send each other anything else. In fact I will never be able to thank her properly. But I do know I will be taking part again next year and I cannot wait! And you should all join up too!
